No putting out fires, but having real impact

Projects, trust and forward-thinking tech

What makes IT different here? You get the chance to help build something big. No endless tickets, but project work that makes a difference. No sluggish systems, but modern technology that evolves with the company’s ambitions. And most of all: as an IT expert, you’re part of the story of a growing company that dares to invest in its people and its infrastructure.

For Infrastructure Engineer Matthias, the workday starts with a quick look at PRTG, the monitoring tool that keeps an eye on servers, applications and the network environment. Then usually comes the ticketing system — but that’s far from the biggest part of his day. “We stay close to the action. It’s not helpdesk work filled with minor issues. My job is mainly about projects.

Monitoring and building

And you can take that literally. Right now, Matthias is helping to revamp the local data centre in Tilburg. At the same time, he’s involved in the launch of our fourth production line in Wielsbeke. “We make sure that from day one, there’s wifi, networking gear, physical and virtual servers, access points and cameras. We map everything out ourselves using building plans and configure the hardware. You’re helping build even before the factory exists.

So IT at Agristo is just as much a cornerstone as it is a backbone. If you like hands-on, project-based work with real impact, you’ll feel at home here fast.

The right tools, the right decisions

At Agristo, you work with tools that simply do what they need to do. The Infra team uses PRTG for network monitoring, TopDesk for ticketing, VMWare and VSphere for virtual servers, and CheckPoint for firewalling. Wifi and networking are rolled out using HP/Aruba and Extreme Networks. The team continues to test new tech, like switches with automatic NAC.

Even when it comes to documentation, the bar is set high: we’ll soon be switching to Notion to share knowledge more smoothly. If a tool proves useful, we get it — often faster than you’d expect. All this means you’re not busy putting out fires, but practising your craft. Agristo actively invests in solutions that prevent problems and improve efficiency. That gives you the space to focus on what really matters: building systems that grow with the business.

High-trust environment

Working in IT at Agristo means having the autonomy to make your own decisions. Deciding where to place access points on a floorplan? That’s up to you. Ordering the hardware? You do that too. “They trust us. We carry out our own analysis and make our own decisions.” That autonomy goes hand in hand with strong collaboration: within IT (Applications and Security) and, for big projects, with project teams and business stakeholders. “We’re never on our own. You always know who to turn to.

Learning by doing

New technology? You’ll learn it on the job. Firewalling, networking, wifi solutions from Extreme Networks … it’s all part of your growth, whether you’re new or experienced. “Even with tools I was already familiar with, like Azure or VMWare, I still learn more here,” says Matthias. You learn from colleagues, external partners or just by owning a project.

The Infra team is divided into four squads, each with its own focus: from service delivery to IT/OT, from security to infrastructure. Everyone has their own specialty, but it’s the cross-pollination that makes the difference. “We complement each other well. And we lift each other up, even in tough projects.
